"Every so often, the bigger alliances go through the ranks and clean house. With large numbers of members, its difficult for a single person to know if certain people are active, pay dues (if required), or even log in. So every so often, the bigger alliances will have a cleaning. Give members a certain time period to check in, and if they haven’t replied to a PM/e-mail, they are booted from the alliance. This makes it easier on all involved. Recently, the Freeholders Alliance went through their summer cleaning, booting 17 members from the alliance after a given time period. While the number may seem large, the efficiency of the alliance will likely not be affected, as the members that were booted, well, weren’t doing anything. Which large alliance will be cleaning house next? Time will tell."

None.... I don't recall another alliance cleaning house to the extent I have done twice now.

"Try to give yourself several stops before being forced to make a decision on how to run your missions – for example, in the Federation, start in the Dragon’s Den and go through Ook, before deciding whether to go up through Mirian, Lave, and the Weasel SB, to go through Andexa, Orevre, and the Weasel SB, or go through Andexa, Siberion, to Tau Ceti or Beta Proxima. The more lead time you give yourself, the better chance the turns you use will be more efficient."

To that, I will say "No."

When doing missions, you can only carry a few package missions at once. Thus, you will achieve maximum capacity very early. You are likely to have missions mostly for a few sectors away at a time. But if you see a really good mission, then you should take it. Thus, at Dragon’s Lair, you might take a mission for Andexa and a mission for Ericon. Now most of your run is set in stone, because you’d be a fool to spend 800 turns traveling through Miarin only to go to two low-pop SBs.

Now, having just proved why Miarin->Lave is a mistake, I’ll explain why Andexa->Dacees->Siberion is not a good choice either: There is not much of a good route. You waste turns going through Dacees for only 3-4 high pop planets/SBs. Using very few turns to go through Orerve and XH yields the huge rewards of Ericon, Alpha Centauri, Sol, and Epsilon Eridani. Then of course you can extend your trip back to where you started via Olexti.

But with so many high pop planets in one place, you can always do most of your missions as runs back and forth between those aforementioned four sectors, and take extensions as needed into neighboring sectors. I used that when ranking Lt. Commander->Captain.
