Tuesday, January 31st, 2006Famiso, revisited

Literally. Famous Pirate and SPARTAN are back in Famiso. They visited before, so now they’re re-visiting. That’s clever, you see? Or at least I think so. Conglomo may have other ideas on the subject as it is their home sector that is once again under attack. SPARTAN, in coordination with Famous Pirate, could have ambushed the sector again, but they were seeking more sport this time around. As such, Conglomo was notified of the impeding attack a week before it happened. The pirate alliances demanded a sum of 10 million credits. Conglomo refused, and the pirates charged into the sector, destroying everything in their path. How much damage has been done so far? I have no idea, but I would venture a guess that the total sum will eventually far exceed the relatively paltry 10 million credit sum. Where SPARTAN goes next is anyone’s guess, but the Tribune will be right behind them.
Developing the undevelopable…
Begreze. Former home to Falyn Memorial Teahouse. I performed many a repair there while hunting x-993 squads and battleships around the West Pardus Rim. At this point it is common knowledge that The Teahouse was destroyed by Bobo during a string of Starbase destructions last week. The Sindarin Trade Society moved in quickly in an attempt to claim the sector as their own. The catch: it would be a Federation base. Obviously, this upset several imperial pilots.
The STS attempt at development was destroyed by Kelthar of the Imperial Guard this week, after several days of tense exchanges between the parties. Kelthar is famous in among Guardsmen for his defeat of the late Admiral Paradis. The Guard vindicates the destruction of the Trade Outpost, owned by Sentoo, by citing the fact that STS appears to be working hand-in-hand with the Mooninites.
Word from Empire space is that more attacks could be forthcoming if STS continues its “misguided attempt” to develop Begreze. Is Begreze undevelopable? Actually, I think we just made up that word. That’s ok though. That’s something journalists of our caliber are allowed to do. Only time will tell our fears are justified.
This just in:
Bobo has also destroyed Cassandra Aegwynn’s Starbase, Compass Rose. This brings Bobo’s total SB destruction in the West Pardus Rim to 4. This reporter has stopped trying to reach Bobo for comment, as all attempts at communication are met with stony silence.
The Basics: How to Bag Your First Inexperienced Pirate (The Watcher)
I was on my way back to the Capella sector the other day when I noticed an odd blip on my radar screen. It appeared that a small craft was attempting over and over to cloak in an energy field I was passing. The cloaking signals were far too obvious for it to be anyone of any real concern so, being the inquisitive type, I decided to check it out. Now might be a good time to point out that I was in my brand new Wasp, replete with 2 5 MW impulse lasers, small shield, and Tritanium Armor. The craft? A Space Pirate. A VERY Inexperienced Space Pirate by the looks of things. Perhaps this pilot had heard tales of Doombringer’s greatness and affection for rum and tried a few too many rounds himself…
Regardless of the reason for this pirate’s poor ship driving skills, I realized that this could be a great opportunity for me to break in my new ride. I closed in for the kill, and the fireworks began. I started by initiating a strafing run with my lasers. I had hoped to catch the pirate of guard, but his automated defense systems fired back at me and I was hit with a KL760 Homing Missle in the side. A glance at my monitors registered damage to the shields. Fortunately, they were still intact. To my surprise, the pirate’s steering improved radically as he banked towards me returned fire with his lasers. I maneuvered to avoid his volleys and attempted to return some of my own. Neither of us was a very good shot. Several minutes of intense firefight later, I noticed that my armor alarm was flashing and, firing one last volley at the pirate, retreated to a nearby Starbase for repairs.
Unfortunately, the pirate’s reputation must have been such that he was stranded in the energy field. When I returned, I found the fool in the same position as I had left him. I reengaged and finally finished him with a critical shot to his engines.
The moral of my story? All new pilots, take heart! Space pirates have beginners too! If I could destroy this one while in my Wasp, so too can you.
The Great Droid Escape! (Elona R Hughes)
Several hundred droids have been reported missing in the monthly inventory done at Triad City. Untold millions were lost. Sources close to the Triad reveal that previous management of the Triad City was fired due to this incident. Interestingly enough, this reporter has noticed that a very large severance package was given to the former owner, vaulting him highly into the Top 20 list of wealth. When asked about the sudden firing of one of their most highly decorated members, Firestar, Triad’s Economic Advisor and 2nd highest ranking member, could only greet us with grumbles.
One may speculate what the droids came up with after sitting so long in the base so long with nothing to do. Perhaps they ended up teaching themselves to construct a small ship and sailed off into the darkest corners of the galaxy in search of their brothers in arms, the X993 squads? Will they be back? Only time will tell…
Announcements: Literary Achievements
Is there a poet in our midst? The answer is, of course, yes. There are many poets in our midst. However, I am thinking of one in particular. Her name? Cassandra Aegwynn. Apparently Cassandra’s skills extend well beyond universal topography. While the Tribune does not have any of Cassandra’s prose to publish, we hear that it is unique in its verve. Go ahead, challenge her.
Announcements: Congratulations!
Atrellium, one of three Federation Admirals, the most experience pilot in the galaxy, fulfilled a personal goal this week when he defeated his 100th Space Worm…every single one of us needs to take note of this remarkable achievement and send the Admiral our warmest congratulations! Good job Admiral Atrellium, we all wish you the best in eradicating these vermin…
